Job Summary:
The Business Analyst assesses and advises aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners of small and medium enterprises. The role both runs front-line intake needs assessments, business clinics, structured consultations, and referrals, while
managing an assigned portfolio of clients and coordinating their business support journey through OSS, producing the business
documents and resources (service standards, KPI packs, diagnostic inputs, templates) that formalize and sustain that advisory
relationship. The role combines front-line business advisory with structured analysis, portfolio management, and coordination of
client support.
Responsibilities
- Conduct business needs assessments and structured diagnostics to identify operational, financial, marketing, organizational, and strategic challenges.
- Develop client-specific action plans with measurable objectives and follow up on progress and implementation.
- Provide business advisory support within areas of expertise, including business strategy, business models, financial management, sales and marketing, operations, and growth planning.
- Identify business risks, market opportunities, and growth constraints, and recommend appropriate mitigation and growth approaches.
- Reassess client needs and update recommendations based on progress, evidence, and changing business conditions.
Client Portfolio & Relationship Management
- Ensure statutory registrations, returns, records, and external audit requirements are completed accurately and on time.
- Support the conversion of qualified prospects into active OSS clients by understanding their needs and connecting them with relevant OSS services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with SME owners, entrepreneurs, and startup founders across new and existing clients.
- Identify and coordinate referrals to OSS specialists or service providers when clients require specialized technical support
- Proactively re-engage non-responsive clients, escalate engagement risks when needed, and gather client feedback to improve OSS services.
Documentation, Coordination & Reporting
- Develop and contribute to Service Standards, KPI packages, templates, checklists, SOP inputs, and other reusable business resources.
- Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date client documentation to ensure work is traceable and ready for review or handover.
- Coordinate with Procurement, Fund Management, Project, M&E, and CoE technical advisors to ensure aligned and coordinated client support.
- Validate proposed use of grant or investment funding against clients’ agreed Strategic Investment Plans and provide relevant updates to management.
- Provide regular portfolio updates, client insights, and business intelligence to support programme reporting, service development, and stakeholder engagement.
Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or a related field
- 2–4 years of experience in business advisory, SME support, or business consulting, ideally spanning both direct client-facing work and structured document/report production.
- Experience working with startups and SMEs, preferably across different sectors.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and business writing skills, with the ability to conduct needs assessments and develop structured recommendations.
- Strong client engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients and follow up on agreed actions.
Nice to have
- Experience developing business documents, KPI frameworks, service standards, templates, SOPs, or similar business resources
- Experience providing advisory support across areas such as business strategy, business models, finance, sales and marketing, or operations
- Experience working with entrepreneurship support programs, business support organizations, incubators, accelerators, or similar environments.
- Experience working with donor-funded or development programs and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience using digital tools, spreadsheets, and shared platforms for analysis, documentation, and reporting
